Halo: Reach - Page 4 Empty Re: Halo: Reach

Post by PurpleSteve Fri Apr 30, 2010 3:33 pm

Bungie have said that the beta will be out late morning PST, which sadly mean it will be between 6 and 9 o clock at night here. Sorry guys.

I have played 30 games today and won 19, not bad for a noob. But what are my opinions, you say? I'm impressed. Very impressed.

It feels new- movement takes awhile to get used to, reticule blooming will leave you missing one-shots, armour upgrades are confusing at first - but when you give it a few games you get this familiar feeling. That feeling is the adrenaline rush and smile that only Halo can give.

In a way, the combat reminds me a little of shadowrun. Jetpacks offer great movement, as well as sprint of course, that is reminiscent of the glider and the likes from SR. The DMR feels and sounds a lot like the rifle from shadowrun, making it easy to pick off jump pack troops.

Now a comparison to SR is far from a bad thing as that was one of the best MP games I have ever played. But again, it still feels like Halo. When you pick up a double kill with your weapon and quickly throw a speculative sticky at an on coming enemy for the trip, you forget you're playing Reach, it just clicks like Halo.

The movement is considerably different with the jump being shallower, but it seems to give you more range, especially after you use your sprint and skip jump on the landing. Armour upgrades are fun. The only one I have not used much is the camo. My personal fave is the jet pack as it's good fun.

Agh, I've totally lost my train of thought now, there's too much shooting through my head. Oh, stockpile is carnage, flags flying everywhere. Levels are nicely designed (of course) and work well with many of the game types.

I'm going to write a blog post tomorrow and do a full article for a site so hopefully they'll be more contained and interesting.

If you got any questions about specific areas then feel free to ask. Might be easier that way.

I got rid of ODST after about a week because I just cant get into Halo's MP. Seriously thinking about picking it up today though, dont want to be the onlyh player on live who's not playing it Sad

I saw ODST for £13 in Gamestation secondhand - loads of copies. £13 might sound a lot just to play a beta (and it is), but I've been hearing reports of people paying £40-50 for the early entry codes on eBay.

Reach sounds like Halo, but not Halo. I'm looking forward to getting to grips with something that seems superficially similar but has enough tweaks to make a huge difference to how it plays bom

Reach is amazingly good. I can only back up GAR1ONs mention of Shadowrun.

Cautionary note - when buying preowned games from gamestation, check the discs before playing - I almost knackered my DVD drive as a sticker was on the bottom of the disc. In other news, I suck at halo mp

I believe that the playlist (and new map) Network Test 1 - also known as Generator Defense - goes up tonight. Enjoy!

The new Forgeworld looks amazing, doesn't it? The ability to fix items and (even more amazing) phase them makes it look the fucking mutt's nuts! So glad I ordered the legendary edition now Very Happy My mind is already reeling with the possibilities.

Just hope Bungie are quick to put the best maps into some sort of playlist (they've done it with some success in Halo 3, but it took them a while).

Yep! According to the Vidoc, "Paradiso" is one Smile

I meant the best community maps, sorry - if fans make great maps, there ought to be a way to get them into matchmaking quickly. There should be a dedicated Forge World playlist, in my opinion.

Even on Halo 3, you can play some of the community maps made in Sandbox and the other Forge bit (crap, can't remember what it's called now - the one that had the original Grifball playlist made in it), but not enough for my tastes. Occasionally, Bungie do special days with playlists where it's only community-based maps, but there's no specific playlist, and no real defined way to get them into matchmaking other than blind luck & the hope Bungie notices your labour of love.

They should do a Friday every month where you can submit your new Forge maps for Reach or something, get them voted on by the community, and the best ones make it in. Or something.
